With our event based in the Selwyn Reserve in the heart of Mission Bay and a full road closure in effect on Tamaki Drive from Ngapipi Rd to St Heliers, access and parking at the venue will be challenging. We strongly recommend all participants read the notes below carefully.

Road Closures & Parking Restrictions

Running Events, Auckland Council and our traffic management partners are fully committed to providing the best possible event experience for all competitors. However, we must also ensure the event is safe for competitors and the public and minimise disruption for those not taking part. The exact details of the traffic plan are yet to be finalised so the information on this page should be used a guide only. Please reconfirm details during race week.

To enable the event to take place, Tamaki Drive will be closed between Ngapipi Rd and Long Drive from approximately 4am until 11am. To enable access to Okahu Bay, Kelly Tarltons and Bastion Point, the section between Ngapipi Rd and Tamaki Yacht Club may be progressively re-opened from 9:30am.

No parking will be permitted on either side of Tamaki Drive within the road closure.

Event Shuttle Buses: $10 Return

We want this event to be huge and we want it to be enjoyable. One of the major obstacles we face is the ability to provide enough parking to allow participants to access the event without disrupting local residents. To answer this challenge, we are proposing to offer a shuttle bus service from some points around Auckland where you will find it easy to park your vehicle on a Sunday morning. By taking the shuttle bus, you are guaranteed to arrive at the race site in plenty of time for your event start, with the minimum of fuss and stress.

Shuttle bus tickets will be priced at $10 each and will be valid for one trip to Mission Bay and one trip back to the pick-up point. Your bus tickets will be sent out with your race number and they will most likely not be available to purchase in the last 2 weeks prior to the event.

Locations other than Britomart are subject to sufficient numbers. A firm list of pick up locations will be confirmed no later than 4 weeks prior to the  event. The following locations are currently proposed

  • Britomart
  • The Domain
  • Smales Farm Bus Station

Shuttle Bus Timetable
Where numbers justify it, each location will have buses leaving at two times to head to Mission Bay. The early bus will arrive at Mission Bay no later than 7am, giving half marathon participants half an hour to drop their gear bag, warm up and get ready to race. The late bus will arrive no later than 8:30am and is suitable for those in the 10K Classic, 5K Fun Run & Walk and 2K Kids’ Dash.

A return bus service will operate to return you to your pick up point. All buses will depart Mission Bay as soon as possible after the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony at approximately 11am. Additionally, where possible, earlier shuttle services will operate between 9:30am and 10:30am. The exact departure times and drop-off locations for these services will be confirmed closer to the event. However, please be aware that earlier departures are not guaranteed. If you are booking a place on the shuttles, be prepared to remain at the race site until the conclusion of the Awards Ceremony.

Public Transport

Mission Bay is within easy reach from Auckland City Centre so there are options for getting to the race site on public transport. However, due to the closure of Tamaki Drive, some services may be disrupted and you should check carefully if you plan to rely on public transport. It is also highly unlikely there will be suitable public transport options for those in the half marathon as most buses and ferries do not operate early on Sunday mornings.

Driving & Parking Info

We fully appreciate that the public transport options aren’t for everyone and some participants will opt to drive to the event. It is important to note that Tamaki Drive will be closed to traffic, including race participants from very early on race morning and no parking will be permitted on either side of Tamaki Drive during the closure.

Parking will be available on the streets around the race site but this is limited and likely to fill early. Even if you are arriving relatively early to the site, you should allow plenty of time to find a space and count on a long walk to the race site. We strongly recommed the Event Shuttle Bus as a more convenient option which will also assist us in making future growth of the event viable.

If you are parking in the bays, please be sure to check parking signs and comply with the parking rules posted – or expect a shock when you return to your vehicle. Please also respect the local residents and don’t block driveways or make undue disturbance.
